Assignment #2

I finally finished my second assignment. Three photo's done. We had to include a pan blur, motion blur, and a freeze of action shot.

"BELLEVILLE, Ont (29/09/09) - Jessie Bell and Ryan Pirnasar, two loyalist college students taking the investigation studies course, go for a two kilometer run for their fitness class."

"BELLEVILLE, Ont. (29/09/09) - The cafeteria at Loyalist, run by Chartwells, is an ideal spot to grab a snack on the way to class. But with higher awareness of swine flu this season, more and more stress is put upon eating healthy."

"BELLEVILLE, Ont (29/09/09) - Transport Canada said that in 2002-2004, more than 700 people were killed and more than 3,500 were seriously injured annually in speed-related crashes (transport canada)."

Rainy Weather

Yesterday i was out trying to shoot light-streams for my blur assignment. it started to pour rain. the few shots i actually took were brutal!

yeah... i wasn't ready for the rain, i had a plastic bag but it didn't cover the lense...

Blurring.

Today in class Frank taught us about using blurs in our photographs. He began by telling us a bit about what f-stop to us and what shutter speed to set at.

Then he came to the tangent of a bicycle. He explained when exactly to take a photo as something (a bicycle in this case) is passing you by to achieve a successful pan blur. His demonstration included the class going outside to put this new knowledge into practice. The sky was quite ominous, and it started to rain as soon as we stepped outside. Frank used this as a perfect time to teach that sometimes you will be rushing to get the shot in this very slim window of opportunity (we were mostly worried about getting our gear wet for it was raining at a decent rate).

There's my one shot i took in the pouring rain as he rode by. The timing is a little bit early because the two tires aren't perfectly parallel with the bottom of the frame. But i think it's a decent attempt provided the situation the class was in.

PJ assignment #1

"BELLEVILLE Ont. (16/09/09)- Ken Cuthbert studies Hotel & Restraunt Management online while working at the Clarion Inn & Suites. Cuthbert plans to open his own bed and breakfast with his prior training in the culinary arts. A plan that will take 5-6 years to achieve."

Our first assignment from intro to photojournalism. the assignment was to find someone who we found interesting, photograph them, and write a caption describing that person with two or more interesting facts.
